São Roque is a super convenient base: Ponta Delgada is only a few minutes away (around 5 minutes by taxi), so restaurants, shops, and the marina are close without the city noise. You’re also right by one of the area’s best-known sandy beaches—Praia das Milícias and Populo — for quick swims and sunset walks. From here, most of the island’s main attractions are typically within about max 45 minutes by car… unless your “quick drive” turns into a full-on Miradouro tour (because the viewpoints are hard to resist).
