The Whales Studio at Quinta São Roque is a welcoming, self-catering base for exploring São Miguel — perfect for couples, or anyone seeking a relaxed island rhythm. Named for the ocean’s most awe‑inspiring residents, celebrating the beauty and strength of the Atlantic. Our peaceful retreat sits just five minutes from Ponta Delgada while remaining perfectly positioned for day trips in every direction.
The apartment
Comfortable, light-filled, and thoughtfully equipped, studio (25 m²) offers sleeping for 2 guests. The studio has a queen bed, linens, blackout blinds, and an en-suite shower — stocked with shampoo, shower gel, and a hairdryer — ensure restful nights. Fresh towels are provided, with mid-stay changes available upon request (every 5 days).
The full kitchen is equipped with a cooktop, oven, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, and every utensil you need to prepare simple breakfasts, picnic lunches, or relaxed dinners at home. A dedicated workspace with high-speed Wi‑Fi (200 Mbps) works well for remote work or catching up on emails, while a smart TV and our collection of 65+ board games offer indoor entertainment on quieter days. A washer and drying rack make longer stays easy.

São Roque’s central location is one of the best parts: you’re only five minutes from Ponta Delgada (the island’s capital, with restaurants, markets, and shops), yet surrounded by nature and close to sandy beaches like Praia do Pópulo and Praia das Milícias—ideal for a quick swim or a sunset walk. From here, São Miguel’s highlights are within easy reach: Lagoa do Fogo (25 minutes), Caldeira das Sete Cidades (30 minutes), and Furnas (35 minutes).
Outdoor living
Outdoor living is a big part of the experience. The property’s 1000 m² garden offers dining areas, a BBQ area, sunbeds, and quiet sitting spots where you can enjoy your morning coffee or unwind with a book from our mini library (English guidebooks, books about the island, volcanoes and the ocean, plus fiction and novels). In the evening, the fire pit is a cozy way to end the day. For an extra touch of holiday mode, an outdoor massage professional is available upon request.
